Talk about being setup for a letdown. Talk about adding insult to injury. The Redskins experienced both Saturday night as they were blown out in Charlotte by the Carolina Panthers 47-3.
Skins defensive end Jason Taylor left the game with a sprained right knee. Taylor got his leg caught in a pile of players during a second quarter tackle of the Panthers DeAngelo Williams. He remained down on the field after the play and was in obvious pain. He left the field under his own power and X-rays following the game were negative. Taylor is scheduled for an MRI exam Sunday at which time his status will be further updated.
Redskins tackle Jon Jansen also left the game in the first half with a sprained right foot. The severity of his injury is unknown.
Jason Campbell was 6-of-10 for 39 yards in a lackluster effort while Todd Collins came on to go 9-of-15 for 79 yards. Colt Brennan was tasked with running the offense to finish out the game and went 6-of-12 for 53 yards. Clinton Portis gained 32 yards on eight carries.
And adding more injury to the insult, the Skins (3-1) have a short week to lick their wounds. They host Jacksonville Thursday night at 7pm in the final preseason game, which usually serves as a dress rehearsal for the start of the regular season.
