The Washington Redskins offense scored less than 13 points for the 4th straight game and were eliminated from the playoffs Sunday, but that didn’t stop them from defeating their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, 10-3 in front of a big crowd on a cold day at FedEx Field.
The stars of the day were the Redskins defense, holding the Eagles without a touchdown for the first time this season. At game’s end, (pictured) Eagles receiver Reggie Brown lept to catch the ball near the goal line, but CB Fred Smoot came underneath to keep him airborne, and Safety LaRon Landry supplied the hit that kept the Eagles receiver out of the end zone. The Eagles were out of timeouts, thus the clock ran out, preserving the Skins win.
QB Jason Campbell completed 18 of 33 passes for 144 yards, though poor pass blocking afforded him a beating from the Eagles defense, and prevented him from throwing deep.
RB Clinton Portis led the ground game with 70 yards on 22 attempts and the game’s lone touchdown. Ladell Betts had 5 catches for 43 yards, Randy Moss snagged 5 for 28 yards.
The Skins (8-7) were eliminated when Atlanta beat Minnesota Sunday. Washington will finish the 2008 season next Sunday at San Francisco.
